2. Health and Safety Policy
Health and Safety Policy Statement of Intent
You are expected to have and implement an appropriate policy, regularly reviewed, and signed off by the Director Responsible for Safety.
The policy must be relevant to the nature and scale of your work and set out the responsibilities for Health and Safety management at all levels within the organisation.
Evidence required:
A Health and Safety Policy Statement of Intent must be provided in the full company name as listed on the SSG Assessed application.
This policy statement must be signed and dated within the last 12 months.
Arrangements
These should set out the arrangements for Health and Safety management within the organisation and should be relevant to the nature and scale of your work. They should set out how the company will discharge their duties under current Health and Safety legislation. There should be a clear indication of how these arrangements are communicated to the workforce.
Evidence required for organisations with 5 or more employees:
Health and Safety Arrangements
A clear explanation of the arrangement which the company has made for putting its policy into effect and for discharging its duties under current relevant Health and Safety legislation.
Details of the company’s Drug and Alcohol Policy.
Details of the company’s policy for Occupational Health Issues including mental health and fatigue.
Details of any behavioural management or behavioural safety programmes in place (please note this is not a compulsory requirement).
Welfare Provision
‘Welfare facilities’ are those that are necessary for the well-being of employees and/or those under the control of the organisation, such as washing, toilet, rest and changing facilities, and somewhere clean to eat and drink during breaks.
For Principal Contractor organisations, you should be able to demonstrate how you will ensure that appropriate welfare facilities will be in place before people start work on site.
Evidence required:
Health and Safety Policy commitment.
Contracts with welfare facility providers.
Details of welfare provision included within RAMS / CPP.
